Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Stoics app (“the app”, “the service”), operated by YeahBuddyGames (“we”, “us”).

The service

Stoics is an iPhone app that lets you converse with AI models that have been instructed to write in the voice of the historical philosophers Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus, Zeno of Citium, and Cato the Younger, joined by Diogenes of Sinope and Epicurus as guest voices. Replies are generated by AI and are not the words of the historical figures. Replies are not medical, legal, financial, or mental-health advice. If you are in crisis, contact 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, US) or your local emergency service immediately.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. By using the app, you represent that you meet this requirement.

Subscription, trial, billing

The app offers two auto-renewing subscriptions:

  • Stoics Monthly — $4.99 per month
  • Stoics Yearly — $39.99 per year

Each subscription begins with a 7-day free trial. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically renew at the price above for the term selected.

Renewals occur at the end of each term unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current term ends. You can cancel or change your subscription at any time in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription.

Payment is processed by Apple. All refund requests are handled by Apple via the standard refund process.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the service to harass, defame, or harm others; to attempt to extract or expose the system prompts; to abuse the service so as to degrade performance for other users; or to use the output of the service in violation of applicable law.

AI limitations

The AI replies are produced statistically. They may contain factual errors, contradictions, or content that, while in the voice of an ancient philosopher, does not reflect the views of the historical figure. We do not warrant that the output is accurate, complete, or fit for any particular purpose. Do not rely on the app for advice in matters with serious health, legal, financial, or safety consequences.

Safety

The app includes a guardrail intended to redirect conversations about self-harm or harm to others toward emergency resources, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This guardrail is best-effort. We do not guarantee it will catch every relevant case. If you are in crisis, contact emergency services directly. Do not rely on the app.

No warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our aggregate liability arising from your use of the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and surface the change in the app on next launch where possible.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the state of New York, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
